This short video was inspired by silent films of yore that my friend and fellow film classmate, Myles and I did for fun. Or, it might have been a class assignment for film history class where we had the option to make a film, instead of a paper.

Give me my slippers or give me death, brooklyn, ny, super8 (no sound), 12:00 mins, 1998

This was my final film I class assignment, which was shot on super8. It was a year worth of footage with scenes using different people. But, I think it worked out in the end since the film was sort of about college and the universe-city. I got the title after seeing lots of slipper action in the footage and I thought it would make for an appropriate and funny title.

This was my final assignment for video I class in college (freshman year). It also might have been my first scripted video ever. Thanks to Evre and Brian for totally bringing those words come to life. Especially, given the fact that both didn’t receive the script until the minute-of production. The idea was based on cafeteria conversations about this girl that either I had a crush on or my friend or both.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve envisioned and tried (in vain) to make a film that featured and perhaps, even set the whole thing around this room at Pratt Institute’s Main Bldg in Brooklyn—probably a dozen-thousand times. Many films from Metropolis to Brazil to Eraserhead came to mind when I thought of this room. But, alas, I couldn’t think of anything concrete besides those afore-mentioned films looping in my brain that the dreamed-film never came to fruition. I did make other films though that took place in-and-around the machine room and I like to think that some of that inspiration oozed its way into those works.
